The
Vineyard Jazz Ensemble Quintet kicks off its fall season of monthly
dances on Friday, September 5th at the Amherst Masonic Lodge.
The band puts on a show the first Friday of every month for both
dancing and listening and has consistently attracted a wide and
diverse audience of couples and singles at all levels of dancing
proficiency. Attendees travel from as far away as NYC, Brattleboro,
Keene, Springfield and Boston, and have vowed to return.
The evening starts out with Leisure Services dance instructor
Jacqueline Maidana teaching a dance lesson at 7:30pm. Then from
8:30-11pm the Vineyard Jazz Ensemble Quintet takes to the stage
under the guidance of Pelham resident, Jimmy Burgoff , the band
leader and acoustic bassist. Playing along with Jimmy are Christopher
Bakriges on piano, Dave Bilodeau on trumpet, flugelhorn and cornet,
and either Gregory Caputo or Billy Arnold on drums. On September
5th Erik Lawrence will join the band on saxophone and clarinet.
Musical styles performed by the band include swing, foxtrot, waltz,
tango, mambo and even the occasional polka! Music performed in
a jazz style was originally meant for dancing. Participants always
remark on how much fun they have dancing to a live band. Admission
is $8.00. The doors open at 7:15pm and refreshments are provided.
The Amherst Masonic Lodge is located next to the police station
at #99 Main Street. For more information call Jimmy Burgoff at
